Life Skills

A necessary foundation to provide an edge to the children’s overall development

Life skills are essentially those abilities that help promote overall well being and competence in young people as they face the realities of life. Life Skills Based Education (LSBE) include psychosocial competencies and interpersonal skills that help people make informed decisions, solve problems, think critically and creatively, communicate effectively, build healthy relationships, empathize with others, and cope with managing their lives in a healthy and productive manner.

Life Skill Period

Every class has a life skill period every week. Here the class teacher or mentor teacher facilitates a discussion or activity to enhance an age-appropriate life skills. They include using a fork and knife, folding a shirt, basic first aid, checking expiry dates on consumables, segregation of waste, peeling and grating vegetables, etc.

Methods

Different methods that are used to enhance Life Skills in students are: Class discussions, Brainstorming, Role plays, Special Assembly based on Life Skills topics, Case studies, Storytelling, Debates, etc. Life–skills empower young people to take positive action to protect them and promote their health and positive social–relationships.
